Aishwarya Rai vs Sonam Kapoor at Cannes 2014: Outfits, Hair and Makeup Breakdown
As promised, here is a complete review of all the outfits and makeup looks sported by Aishwarya Rai at 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Yes I just put down The Winner Stands Alone and all I want to talk about is Cannes and the mystery. We will later have a comparison between the two B-Town divas, Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya. No we won’t talk about other yucky actresses like Mallika Sherawat..because she is not worth it! (wink). Also includes a little L’Oreal controversy which I dig up. Let’s start and see if Aishwarya managed to shut up the critics or not at the ongoing Cannes 2014.
Aishwarya Bachchan turned up looking like a golden bronze mermaid for her first red carpet appearance at the ongoing Cannes 2014. The corset mermaid golden Roberto Cavalli gown accentuated her curves at the right place. Totally a stunner at Two Days, One Night Premiere. Junior B tweeted that he was jet lagged and sleepy but wide awake after “Mrs” turned up like this!
Although I have to agree that this outfit wouldn’t have looked that glam if not for the perfect beachy mermaid waves and flawless and fresh makeup. She usually sticks to smokey eyes and nude lips combo so this bright red lip and winged liner look is a treat to the eyes. And look at her confidence. Okay so I think I’m makeup forward! You know how I told you about this new bold shade Lincoln Rose from the L’Oreal Moist Matte lipsticks range. I have been dreaming about this shade ever since I saw a girl wearing it. And look here is Bachchan bahu sporting it! As soon as I saw the pics I knew it HAD to be Lincoln Rose.
Okay so here is a little controversy. I found this makeup breakdown on the facebook fan page of L’Oreal France (or was it Italy?) But the point is that its so misleading. Firstly Flaming Kiss is an orange lipstick which she is clearly not wearing. Secondly its unethical of L’Oreal PRs to promote the lipsticks without even bothering to confirm. Glad our desi PR team is smart!
For her second appearance on Day 7 at the The Search Premiere, she turned up yet again in a Roberto Cavalli couture gown. It hugged her figure perfectly and boy somebody has worked very hard to get rid off the excess body fat! A really great improvement from the last few years at Cannes. But the cut of both the gowns are quite similar. Also since the gown itself is very neutral so brighter makeup would have looked better.
This is one of those typical Bollywood hair oil moments. Sarso aur aamla ka potion!
She has used L’Oreal Caresse Venus (We have already reviewed 3 shades from this range: Eve, Bella and Juliette and I cannot stress how light weight and perfect these are), Gel Matic Silver Mania (I have it and need a little more of playing around to form an opinion) and Infallible Eyeshadow in Purple Obsession. And once again a different story by the L’Oreal Paris team of some other country. Now I really doubt the genuineness of these makeup breakdowns by L’Oreal.
This time Aishwarya was spotted at the famous Hotel Martinez terrace giving interviews. And no points for guessing its Roberto Cavalli yet again! (Our B stars are very chipkoo in this sense: Cavalli for Ash, Elie Saab for Sonam and it was Sabyasachi for Vidya Balan last year)
PS – I hate those shoes.
For the customary photoshoot along with other L’Oreal brand ambassadors Eva Longoria and Freida Pinto. Somebody tweeted “posing for selfies with Eva Longoria doesn’t make you look cool!” haha! While I like the monochrome look but can’t help noticing how off the red lipstick looks. The shade, the texture..everything looks just..off?
For her last appearance at Cannes 2014, hubby Abhishek Bachchan joined her at the The Search Premiere. What’s the deal with these neutral gowns! Yet again Aishwarya Rai turned up in a nude gown..this time by Armani Prive. Is it just me or do you also think the bust looks a little stiff and weird. Its like Himalayas with a valley (lamest joke ever!)
She wore the same outfit to the amfAR gala later that night. The husband wife co-hosted the event.
Although I like the turquoise eye makeup but the red lips look totally wrong. As a general rule, teals or blues work better with hot pinks or infact any pink shade. So the makeup is quite contrasting and just not working.

Okay so overall each of the outfits look good individually but as a team they look boring and repetitive. And do you also think she wore the same hair all the 3 days. Probably this was her routine at Cannes: get up fatafat in morning, don’t wash the hair as we believe in recycling, change into a mermaid dress..it gots to have a tail, make sure there are no colours, wear the same red lipstick lying on the table from last night’s makeup and go go leave the door.
And now the question every one seems to be asking: Sonam Kapoor vs Aishwarya Rai? Well I don’t think its right to compare the two. Both the ladies have a different style and bring something new to the table. While Sonam’s style is more fresh and fashion forward, Aishwarya is more into classics and comfort……And that by far is my most politically correct statement!
