L’oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer Review and Swatches

By Contributor: Monica

Just like it is said that a perfect painting requires a perfect canvas similarly to bring out perfect makeup, a perfect base is required. And to create this perfect base a primer is a must. A primer is a product which is used on face before the foundation to ease out the imperfections (pores/ lines etc.) and give a smooth skin to work upon. A good primer in addition to smoothing effect makes foundation last longer and controls oil also. In order to cover up few pores on my face I bought the L’oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing primer which I am going to review and swatch today.

L’Oreal Claims: Smoothness you can touch, transformation you can see, even up close! BASE MAGIQUE transforming smoothing primer instantly smooths pores and creates an even surface, so that you get a more flawless make-up result that lasts. The silky, lightweight formula glides onto skin and minimises the look of pores and fine lines to transform your skin surface. Dermatologically Tested. Thanks to a high concentration of elastomers, L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer gives skin an incredibly even surface with fine lines and pores erased. The formula also contains soft powders to help absorb sebum, thereby mattifying the skin to reduce shine.

The finishing touch? Smooth to the touch and with a silk-like feel, silicon oil enables easy-gliding application with no greasy residue. Base Magique will guarantee a more perfect and longer-lasting make-up every time.

I have few small open pores near the nose and few large ones on the left cheek due to acne I had long back. I simply bought this primer to cover them up. And I must say am quite impressed with this little baby. But first let me tell you the application tips as given on the outer cover of the primer:

Step 1- rub the velvet texture between your fingers for easy spreading.

Step 2- apply a thin layer over the face, especially focusing on areas with fine lines and visible pores.

I take a small amount of primer and apply it in this same way and it just diminishes all the small pores in one go and makes skin smooth and soft but, is ineffective on the large pores. Because of its rosy color it gives a nice soft glow and the face looks fresh throughout the day. It gives a matte effect to the skin and eases the blending of the foundation. This primer increases the wear time of the foundation and controls the oil quite well. After 5-6 hours of wearing, I saw some shine on my t-zone but nothing which a blotting sheet cannot take care of. The rest of the makeup was intact. However it tends to enhance the little dryness I have between the brows and corners of mouth so I moisturize those areas well before using this.

Texture: The texture of the primer is velvety smooth because of silicons present in it. It’s a rosy pink thick cream like primer. When I first touched it I was scared that it being so thick it might break out on my sensitive combination skin. But I am glad it didn’t. Despite being so thick it blends quite well.

Packaging: The primer comes in a small (and heavy) transparent tub with a black lid. I personally don’t like the tub packaging as it’s unhygienic to dig in your fingers everytime you have to use it. It also had a very nice whitish-black outer cover which I threw by mistake L Sorry Girls!

  • Has velvety smooth texture.
  • Doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.
  • Easy to blend.
  • Makes skin smooth and soft.
  • Rosy color gives a soft glow to the face.
  • Gives a matte effect which lasts throughout the day.
  • facilitates the blending of foundation over it.
  • Controls oil quite well.
  • Makes foundation last longer.
  • Does not break out.
  • Does not give whitish cast.

What I don’t like about L’oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer:

  • Does not cover the large acne pores.
  • Enhances the dry areas of the face.
  • Full of silicones so girls allergic to silicones must do a patch test before using it.
