bath bombs

Some of the very popular Lush bath bombs are sex bomb, butterball, blackberry and twilight. I always wanted to try one of those but the bath bombs in the store I visit are always out of stock. Even India’s online lush website has got a very limited choice when it comes to bath bombs so I took it upon myself to make my own bath bomb!

I know its illegal but I couldn’t bath without it so had to make a couple of BOMBS for myself only…..no public harm intended.

You will need:

  • Baking Soda – 1cup
  • Essential Oils
  • Citric Acid – 1/2 cup
  • Molds – (I will tell you the cheats below)
  • Bath Salts (optional)- 2tbsp
  • Spritzer

Step 1: Take the baking soda and citric acid and mix it well. Add sea salt or bath salts (for the feel-good factor!). Keep mixing because baking soda can form clumps later on so mix well. This will be a dry mixture.

Step 2: Now add 3-4 drops of your favourite essential oil to the mixture. This is to impart fragrance to the bomb. You can try lavender oil, jasmine oil, extra virgin oil, almond oil, etc. Totally depends on your preference…..and availability!

Keep mixing until you are satisfied with what you smell.

Step 3: Add some food colouring (optional) into a spray bottle full of water and lightly spray it to the mixture. Just use 4-5 sprays. Now form a ball with the mixture. When the ball is made, lightly spray once again to pack the mixture. Don’t go overboard – you don’t want to diffuse your bomb!

Step 4: Put the ball in a plastic or rubber mold. You can cut open a tennis ball in half or use your christmas ornaments. I recently found one more way – use the plastic cap of KFC crushers! Use two of them to make a ball.

Step 5: Take the ball out of the mold as soon as it is dry. If you delay, the ball will not come out! So keep a check. Ideal time is 3-4hrs.

The quantity mentioned above can make 5 balls. Keep these balls in a dry place. Use an air-tight container. Moisture can activate the bomb so keep it away from any kind of humidity. This can last for 3-4 months easily. The price of one bath bomb here is around Rs.350 and you can make a dozen bath bombs at home at this price. You can try fun shaped molds to move a step ahead.

Step 6: Take out this explosive in your bath tub and let it drown you completely. I say go for a hot water bath in this freezy winter. Now wrap yourself in your bed and sleep!
